Exploration

Discovery Call: Explore a topic of your choice and get an experience being coached. The coaching topic is chosen by you and addresses what you want to work on.

You will learn more about how coaching works and have a chance to ask questions. If you are interested in working together, we’ll discuss the details of a coaching program and next steps.

Sample topics I’ve coached people on are included in the FAQs below.

Design

Initial Sessions: Following up from our initial conversation, we’ll look more closely at the topic you’d like to receive coaching on. We’ll explore this topic from a variety of perspectives. I will gather the information needed to design a custom coaching program that addresses your goals. We’ll meet to review and confirm the coaching program ensuring the purpose of the program and the outcomes are the right ones and mutually agreed upon.

Assessment & Design: Between Session 1 and Session 2, I design a customized coaching program with a clear purpose statement and specific outcomes.

Implementation

Ongoing Sessions: Typically, we’ll meet bi-weekly as you work to implement your program. Ongoing support between sessions customized for your preferences can include email, text, voice-text, and other resources.

Summary Notes & Additional Customization: I’ll provide periodic summary notes and we’ll make adjustments to the overall program as you progress with your program.

Reflection

We will review your overall coaching program, looking at where you began, where you are now and where you are going.

You may decide you want to set new goals and continue to work together. If so, we’ll create a new coaching program and define a new scope of work.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There are many different types of coaching and coaches out there. I focus on a method of coaching called Integral Coaching. I’m a Certified Integral Coach through New Venture West and an Associate Certified Coach by the International Coach Federation (ICF).

The 1-1 coaching I do focuses on the practical and doable, meeting you exactly as you are at a particular moment in time, and addressing your specific challenge or aspiration. The approach is also deep and long-term, exploring recurring patterns behind topics, supporting your development over time, and ultimately helping you to build the capacity for sustainability.

It’s an outcome-based coaching program, customized with topics you want to address. Between our coaching sessions I design practices and self-reflection exercises that bring the work of our sessions into your day-to-day life. (Please see below for examples of coaching topics).

As an integral coach, I also actively participate in my own personal development practices. I believe deeply that, “you can’t give away something that you don’t have.” I show up as your coach “walking the walk” and not just “talking the talk”.

All of the information in this FAQ relates to 1-1 coaching engagements. In addition to 1-1 coaching, I also offer coaching for groups or teams. Currently these engagements are customized for specific organizations or teams. Please contact me to discuss group coaching in an organizational setting.

  • Yes, absolutely. I have worked with individual clients on the following topics:

    • Navigating anxiety at work, especially in communicating with colleagues

    • Being more effective leading teams and managing direct reports

    • Facing work transitions - looking for a new job, starting a new career or venture

    • How to develop new skills and a new ‘work identity’ after a promotion to a leadership role

    • Life transitions - often connected to work or relationships or health

    • Strategies to develop work-life balance; navigating the demands of “home and office”

    • Increasing confidence and overall comfort in one’s skin - combating ‘imposter syndrome’

    • Becoming a more effective communicator - in the workplace or in other areas of life

    • Feeling stuck in an particular area of life and how to move forward

    • How to experience greater peace of mind and reduce unhealthy stress

    • Developing greater self-awareness and understanding of oneself

  • There is no ‘one-type’ of person I work with. I work with a wide variety of individuals from different professions and backgrounds. Most clients are either pursuing an aspiration or stymied by a specific challenge. They are aware that they will get further, faster with the right support - and that hiring a coach is a good option for this. Clients I work with aren’t looking for a ‘magic bullet'. They realize that  lasting change and long-term results come through sustained effort over time and are willing to show up and put in the work to pursue their dreams and overcome obstacles.

  • This depends on how your employer structures their professional development. Companies have different rules and stipulations for reimbursement for coaching services. Some employers will pay for coaching or provide professional development stipends for these services. I can structure your program to align with your employer’s professional development goals.

  • The best way to have a sense of what sessions are like is to experience one. I offer a free initial discovery conversation where you will explore a topic you are looking to be coached on and learn more about how coaching works. I will get a better understanding of what you are looking for and what brings you to coaching. You will get an experience of what coaching with me is like and whether it is the right fit for you.

If you decide you’re interested in moving forward, I’ll outline a coaching program based on our conversation. I’ll send you details in a contract for you to review. Coaching engagements vary based on your needs and what you are looking to accomplish. Most coaching engagements involve a minimum of four months, with twelve, one-one sessions. The majority of my coaching engagements last six to nine months.

  • Coaching is a good fit if you are looking to shift something in your life. It doesn’t matter if your issue is big or small, personal or professional; coaching can help you unlock new sources of strength, resilience, creativity, compassion, and leadership. If you have an aspiration you are looking to fulfill, or an area of life where you feel stuck, coaching can be highly effective. My free initial session is a great way to explore this further and get any questions answered.

  • Yes. However, if I learn of a life-threatening situation or something I am required to share by law, then I cannot keep that information confidential.

For those who are hiring me in connection with your employer’s professional development program or sponsored by your employer, we will create a clear contract regarding the terms of your agreement with your employer and we will discuss that in further detail.

  • The typical coaching engagement is 12, 60 minute sessions over a 16-40 week period during a regular meeting time (e.g., every other Tuesday at 2pm). I do offer shorter and longer engagements based on the topic you are looking for support with.

  • Coaching sessions are conducted in-person or via Zoom, depending on your location and preferences.

I am based in Providence, RI.

  • Fees for coaching are discussed and determined individually with clients. They vary based on an individual's needs and what topic a person is looking to receive coaching on.

During our initial call, after I better understand what you are hoping to gain from coaching, I discuss fees and options for coaching packages. Typical coaching engagements are six months, though they can be shorter or longer.

  • Give some thought to what you want to get from the process. During this intro session, we’ll discuss a topic you are looking to receive coaching on and you’ll get an experience of being coached. You’ll have a good sense of whether hiring me can help you achieve your goals. If you decide coaching is a good fit, great, we will schedule a time for a first session and begin the process. If it’s not a good fit, then I will do my best to provide other resources that match what you are looking for (if you’d like). If you are unsure or there are remaining questions, we can have another follow up conversation to discuss further.

Hiring a coach is an important decision and my goal is to make sure you get all your questions answered and get what you are looking for. Here are the steps I recommend for potential clients to get the most out of your call:

    1. Before the Session: Review my website so you have a sense of me and my approach. Note any questions you have. I recommend that you outline your budget, what you are willing to invest in coaching, and what you are looking to get out of coaching ahead of the call.

    2. During the Session: The discovery session will include the following components

      • A short overview of myself and my approach to coaching

      • A chance to talk more about yourself and what you are looking to receive coaching on. This will be the majority of the call.

        • We’ll explore a topic you choose and you will get an experience of being coached

      • You will have a chance to ask any questions about coaching. I’ll provide options for how to work together including price, schedule, sessions, and other aspects of an overall coaching engagement.

        • You can sign up and start your engagement. We’ll pick a date and get started

        • You can take time to think about it and let me know in subsequent days

        • If it is not a good fit for either of us, then you let me know or I will let you know. If I don’t think my coaching is a good fit for what you are looking for, I’ll do my best to provide other resources
